Vani was invited by Celeste Beaumont to join Il Futuro after she got him out of that godforsaken mental hospital. At first he refused the invitation until she mentioned that if he were to join them his first job would be to assassinate his stepfather, a member of a rival mafia group. He thought about it and turned his back around. He accepted the offer.
After leaving the mental hospital and joining Il Futuro, Vani tried to get himself into something any average person would do, a job. Unfortunately he can never find a stable job because he tends to make a mess at work.
Vani has a passive and absent-minded kind of personality. After getting locked up in a mental hospital for several years, his innocent attitude back then as a kid deteriorated. He isn't the “shy” type of guy when it comes to socializing although he doesn’t really talk much. In most conversations, the most common reply you get from him is either a “...Oh.” or a “…Ah.” His vocabulary isn’t as developed as other people’s. His stoic personality mingles with the response he gives when one makes physical contact with him. He usually wipes or dusts the touched areas with disgust. He really hates it when he gets touched by someone. It is also difficult to tease or make fun of Vani, because heck he has gone through a lot of that as a child, and spending several years in a small cramped room in solitude made him the indifferent person he is now.
Vani is an only child. The husband of his mother, a member of an Italian mafia, is not Vani's father. His true father was long murdered after his mother's husband found out about their affair before they had their arranged marriage. Although his mother did not love her husband (she cursed him to hell actually), she stayed with him so he could support Vani's studies in school. His stepfather, Alanzo, knew of her intentions and abused her. Vani loathes Alanzo as much as his mother does.
At the age of 6 Vani realized his abilities and told his mother about them. He promised his mother not to show these to Alanzo, since there was a probability that the mafia would title him as a possible threat and kill him off. His mother then gave him gloves to wear.
Vani became a target of bullies in his school. At first he did not mind the names they threw at him but after every single day of torture Vani was left crying in his room. His suffering still continued back at home. His stepfather was always violent to his mother. Whenever he came home from the mafia headquarters, he would force Vani’s mother to have sex with him. Whenever his mother resisted, he would slap her, treat her like a punching bag and rape her.
Then came one day in middle school, his teacher asked him to recite his favorite story in front of the whole class. He stood up before a classmate shouted out “Weirdo!” at him. He cringed but walked up to the classroom stage and began to narrate his chosen story; The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe. It was a story about a man, Montresor, who wanted revenge on a man that insulted him, Fortunato. In the middle of his story, another classmate yelled out “You suck!” which later then was followed by another retort from a different classmate. Soon the whole class started to make fun of Vani, the teacher tried to stop them but heck it was useless. Vani stopped and got down on his knees, crying out and pleading them to stop. They threw more and more insults at him. It was too much to bear. He closed his eyes and screamed. All the electric appliances in the classroom burst into wreckage. Students who were near these objects died. Everyone in the room started to panic and ran out in horror; his teacher stayed behind and tried to calm the boy down.
Vani opened his eyes. He never meant to do that. He did not know he could do that.
Vani’s teacher, although terrified of getting him or the student hurt, brought Vani to the principal’s office, and called for his stepfather immediately. Vani was in a state of shock. He did not want Alanzo to know. He promised his mother that he wouldn't.
It was too late.
Alanzo brought the boy back home and confined him in the house’s basement. “You don’t know what you’ve done brat.” He said to him. Vani was scared. What was Alanzo going to do? He banged on the basement door, “LET ME OUT!” he cried out. What was he going to do? What was he going to do to his mother? He was locked in that basement for the rest of the night. When morning came he was brought out of the basement and to the dining room where lying on the table was his mother’s dead body.
“See brat? Keeping secrets from me is a no-no.”
Vani grew into a rage, he was about to throw himself unto Alanzo but before he could do so his guards held him down and drugged him to sleep. Moments later Vani woke up and found himself inside a mental hospital. He spent 15 years in that hospital with his hands cuffed and put away from each other. He was kept there like a prisoner. He was educated from time to time but the doctors treated him differently from other patients.
Vani escaped the hospital with the help of Celeste Beaumont, one of the bosses of Il-Futuro, and was invited to join their family. He was told that they knew of his abilities and wanted to make use of them. He had no idea how she got information about him and refused the offer. His attention was drawn back to Celeste when she mentioned that if he were to join them his first mission was to kill his stepfather, Alanzo. He joined Il-Futuro and got the XVI Major Arcana card, The Tower. On the same day he accomplished his first mission.
TLDR; Vani’s stepfather was a really big douchebag and liked abusing his mother. Vani was always bullied in school. Vani’s powers were supposed to be kept as a secret from his stepdad. One day Vani got into an emotional fit and kind of killed several of his classmates. His stepdad found out and killed his mother. Vani was then sent to the mental hospital, was locked there for 15 years and got out with Celeste’s help. He joined Il-Futuro and killed his stepdad.
